On Friday, April 5, the Casa Delle Donne “Paola Trombetti” in Udine, opens its doors to host the solo exhibition of fiber artist Barbara Girardi entitled @tratti, which, on the occasion, will be presented by art historian Francesca Agostinelli.

Born and raised in Treviso, Friulian by adoption, Barbara Girardi has intercepted in the making of textiles, the ideal field of artistic expression and experimentation in which techniques and materials, travel hand in hand with the need to address issues related to social marginality, respect for nature, transgenerationality.


Strong in environmental consciousness, the artist uses in the works and projects he proposes natural, raw or recycled materials processed with special procedures such as natural dyeing, botanical printing, weaving, felt, embroidery and appliqué, projecting towards immersive and performative creations. In the exhibition it will be possible to admire works of recent creation and remarkable dimensions such as Enjoy your flight (2020) a space-time tunnel that invites to fly by immersing oneself in the colorful fabrics of the interior, or Past life stories (2021) a panel that narrates past lives of girls, women and daughters composed of intimate robes in which vegetal elements are imprinted, alternating with fragments of fabrics and yarns dyed with natural color baths. Also featured are pieces from the series Textile Pages: snapshots drawn through textile language that tell fleeting thoughts in whimsical compositions.

Student and colleague of Gina Morandini, Girardi also has to her credit the initiation of numerous educational and social iclusion projects, the coordination of events such as the PremioValcellinaAward International Competition of Contemporary Textile Art dedicated to young people promoted by Le Arti Tessili aps of Maniago PN -sodality of which she has been a member for more than 20 years- and collaborations with various entities in the regional area -including the CIRT aps International Textile Research Center of Villa Santina UD- and nationally, as well as the curatorship of events and publications.

A finissage meeting is scheduled at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 20, where it will be possible to take a guided tour accompanied by the artist.
