From December 30, 2022 to January 29, 2023 

The exhibition    commemorates    the    100th    anniversary    of    the establishment of diplomatic relations between Spain and Lithuania and shows, for the first time in Madrid, contemporary textile works created by 10 internationally recognized Lithuanian artists and the group of 6 artists, Baltos Kandys (Polillas Blancas) and 9 NFT’s (made by Mantas Talmantas).

Promotes and disseminates the latest contemporary art trends from Lithuania opening new creative horizons in Northern European Fiber Art.

The Madrid City Council and the Retiro District Board present together with the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Spain and the Contour Art Gallery, the exhibition DUENDE, Contemporary Lithuanian Textile Art in the Center Cultural Casa de Vacas.

The exhibition is organized and curated by Vilma Mačianskaitė, gallery owner Contour Art Gallery , curator, and art critic; and María Ortega, artist, cultural manager, curator, and general director of the 10th Biennial of Contemporary Textile Art 25 years WTA, Madrid Spain 2022, and 8th International Art Biennial Contemporary Textile WTA Sustainable City, Madrid Spain 2019, It can be visited free of charge until December 30, 2022 and it has been possible thanks to the financial support of LITAMILK.

The exhibition DUENDE, Contemporary Lithuanian Textile Art, focuses exclusively on contemporary textile works created by the 10 internationally recognized Lithuanian artists and the Baltos Kandys (Polillas Blancas) group which present 24 works of art and 9 NFT´s (realizados por Mantas Talmantas), some from the collection of the MO museum in Vilnius, Lithuania. This interactive exhibit with spatial objects immerses the viewer in an environment where everything is conceptually related.

Aims to promote and disseminate the latest contemporary artistic trends in Lithuania, opening new horizons to bring the Spanish public closer to Fibre Art from the perspective of Northern Europe, with large-scale works and the perspectives of NFTs as an innovative format of artistic expression.

DUENDE, Contemporary Lithuanian Textile Art, is the result of an invitation to participate in an exchange program with the Baltic countries that María Ortega (co-curator) started in 2019, and is part of the calendar of Centenary of diplomatic relations between Lithuania and Spain. On 27th July of 1922, the Kingdom of Spain recognized the Republic of Lithuania and both countries established diplomatic relations. Ever since then, they have established different areas of collaboration.

This exhibition is the first of its kind to be held in our country, promoting and fostering future cultural exchanges between Spain and Lithuania.
