Elham M. Aghili’s Il Giardino dell’Anima (The Garden of the Soul) is the exhibition that Fatti ad Arte dedicates to the “Interweaving of Existence” review, a particular section that each year is addressed to artists who use fibers as an expressive message for the creation of their works. The exhibition follows Paola Anziché’s 2021 exhibition and Laura Renna’s 2022 exhibition.

The meditative atmosphere and at the same time of great beauty of the Persian gardens called Pairdis, a word from which the term Paradise originated, has deeply inspired the poetics of Elham Aghili, an Iranian artist, who divides her being between two identities, the Iranian and the Italian, without ever being one, but doubly rich in the profound feeling of two such fruitful cultures.

Nature sprouts between her hands, which with almost artisanal knowledge, weave threads that generate forests and gardens with intense chromatic vibrations, which dilate almost to come alive as if pervaded by an ancestral energy that explodes in all its beauty.

A place for the soul, where feeling expands and remains pervaded by a warm and enveloping nature, a place of seduction and wonder.

Aghili seems to grasp and give voice to an imaginative and powerful nature, she enters into the minuteness of a flower and expands it allowing us to grasp every tiny detail, but she also enters into the depths of herself, almost in a cathartic action of searching for her essence, her fragility, of being a young Iranian woman who uses her artistic quest as an expression of a new freedom of the spirit.

And it is wool that the artist predominantly chooses to create, this fiber that has accompanied humanity for millennia, protective and maternal, soft and enveloping that becomes forest and wilderness, inviting us to be part of it.

For the exhibition at Palazzo Ferrero, Elham Aghili will create a site-specific installation.

The expressive charge of Aghili’s installations found in the yarns of Vimar1991, a manufacturer of the most sought-after Italian fancy yarns, the perfect medium to enhance their uniqueness, three-dimensionality and materiality. These yarns, in fact, amplify the texture of the works and their vitality, creating a tactile curiosity in the viewer, as well as the feeling of being immersed in an artificial nature. Aghili’s magical worlds meet the creative energy of Vimar1991 yarns in February 2022.

The ever-increasing collaboration between the artist and the company is aimed not only at the use of fantasy yarns in Elham’s work, but shares a path of growth, evolution, creative research and communication that contaminates both. In this way, the Italian and manufacturing know-how of Vimar, finds in Elham’s work a new voice, a new value and a new form, never had before and for this reason even more precious.

The exhibition, curated by Patrizia Maggia, will be on view at Palazzo Ferrero, Corso del Piazzo 25, in Biella from Sept. 17 to Oct. 8, 2023.
