Di prossima apertura al George Washington University Museum e al Textile Museum, Handstitched Worlds: The Cartography of Quilts è un invito a leggere le trapunte come mappe, tracciando i percorsi di storie ed esperienze individuali che illuminano eventi storici e tendenze culturali più ampie. La mostra, che spazia dal XIX al XXI secolo, riunisce una serie di quilt provenienti dalla collezione dell’American Folk Art Museum che rappresentano una gamma di materiali, motivi e tecniche, dai quilt tradizionali dei primi anni dell’America all’assemblaggio scultoreo più contemporaneo.

Opening soon at the George Washington University Museum and The Textile Museum, Handstitched Worlds: The Cartography of Quilts is an invitation to read quilts as maps, tracing the paths of individual stories and experiences that illuminate larger historic events and cultural trends. Spanning the nineteenth to the twenty-first centuries, the exhibition brings together a collection of quilts from the collection of the American Folk Art Museum that represents a range of materials, motifs, and techniques—from traditional early-American quilts to more contemporary sculptural assemblage.
