Contemporary fibre art in focus in Bergamo with FIBERSTORMING

Italiano (Italian)

Achieving great public and critical success, FIBERSTORMING is reaching its last weekend. You’ll still be able to visit the exhibit until Sunday, 12 February 2023, at the Aula dell’Ex Ateneo, Piazza Reginaldo Giuliani, Bergamo Città Alta, and participate in the collateral events scheduled for the coming weekend.

The show is promoted by ArteMorbida Textile Arts, curated by Barbara Pavan, and sponsored by the Municipality of Bergamo and IILA, the Italo-Latin American International Organization. It is included in the programme of events of Bergamo and Brescia Capitals of Culture 2023.

The exhibition project is part of the SALONE ITALIA. It is included in the events for the 25th Anniversary of the WTA World Textile Art, which celebrates its silver jubilee with the 10th International Biennial of Contemporary Textile Art in fifteen countries around the world, having as its main venue the city of Miami in Florida and the “25 ARTISTS WTA” Salons in the various member countries.

The exhibition presents the works of twenty-five artists of different generations coming from diverse backgrounds and geographic origins and active in the Italian and international contemporary art scene: Elham M. Aghili, Jorgelina Alessandrelli, Reyhaneh Alikhani, Elizabeth Aro, Silvia Beccaria, Susanna Cati, Cenzo Cocca, Kela Cremaschi, Daniela Frongia, Loredana Galante, Giulio Locatelli, Clara Luiselli, Camilla Marinoni, Florencia Martinez, Laura Mega, Lucia Bubilda Nanni, Giulia Nelli, Federica Patera and Andrea Sbra Perego, Daniela Perego, Elena Redaelli, Valeria Scuteri, Maria Jole Serreli, Giulia Spernazza, Mimmo Totaro, Davide Viggiano.

FIBERSTORMING aims to bring the languages of fibre art closer to a broader public in a territory with a long and successful tradition in the textile industry. The affirmation of this medium in research and artistic practice since the beginning of the last century has progressively freed it from classifications linked to female or craft activities, highlighting its communicative and evocative character and paving the way for an experimental evolution that has consolidated its explorative and assertive dimension in form as well as the content. The invited artists investigate urgent instances of contemporaneity in works realised through a multiplicity of textile techniques and materials.
