THE IMAGINATION OF HAYAO MIYAZAKI IN AUBUSSON TAPESTRY

Hayao Miyazaki’s imagery in the tapisserie d’Aubusson

On April 21, 2023, the third of the monumental tapestries taken from the great films of Japanese animation master Hayao Miyazaki (Spirited Away, Princess Mononoké, Howl’s Moving Castle, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind) was presented to the public.
Based on the film “The Walking Castle,” the tapestry measures 5m x 5m and 11 months were spent weaving this work.
The agreement between the Ghibli Inc. studio and the Cité internationale de la tapisserie in Aubusson had been signed in July 2009 and involves the production of five tapestries that began in 2020 and will end in late 2023.
