Lorraine, an extraordinary commitment and sensitivity

At the end of January this year I contacted Lorraine Turner to host her course at the association I am president of: Scuola Romana Quilting, whose goal is the dissemination of textile arts.

I liked his work and his technique a lot and I knew she would be in Italy, precisely in Perugia where he already had a programmed course.

Lorraine is an artist much appreciated internationally, the way of portraying animals is really personal and particular. There is color and joy in what it represents and it has been a great privilege to make his acquaintance and learn how generous and sensitive this person is. Person and artist. In two days he conquered his students unreservedly because his dedication and professionalism are tangible.

When Chiara and I went to pick her up at the hotel, after the first two minutes of presentations we realized that we were dealing with an open and helpful person. The initial embarrassment vanished without our realizing it and we found ourselves talking and smiling until we arrived at our destination.

The students, who came not only from Rome and the surrounding area but from Sorrento, Venice and Mantua Milan, arrived slowly. Three late, but Lorraine reassured me: don’t worry! And so in the most complete serenity the course was very easy. The spirit was the right one and the desire to know and learn so much

Our interpreter, Eleonora, very young, just 18 years old, was an added value: it is not easy to find such a young girl, educated and helpful. Always smiling. She was able to establish an excellent relationship with Lorraine, I can say almost affectionate. A great revelation. In the group the people who were familiar with the English language were different and so the problems were really null.

You will be amazed to learn what successes she achieved as a graphic artist and as a comics designer. A sensitive and prepared creative who, at a certain point in her artistic life, had this happy intuition of the expressive possibilities of textile art. A person who has gone through painful phases of his life and who has engaged in social work for both the human world and animal. It was really an honor to meet her and I hope to be part of her sphere of friendships because I consider it a precious gift

Lorraine how did you approach the quiltig?

My work as a graphic designer was full of satisfactions while and in recent times  I approached meditation and the animal world. Just a few years ago, during an intense meditation, I had the perception of what my path was. What I had to do. It was all clear. This is how my experience in textile art began.

How did you come to this style so characteristic ?

Precisely as I said before, it was easy to follow my intuition, what I had seen during the meditation.

Your workshops are in great demand. Are you a much appreciated teacher, What importance does this have in your life as an artist?

It is very important to teach and talk about the motivations that push me to continue on this path. My work helps the cause of wild animals and their protection. Raising awareness among other people is extremely important…

What are your future projects? What are you working on?

Immediately I have a personal show in Florida from June 6th to August 18th at the Dunedin Fine Art Center in Florida. And I continue to support the “Return to Freedom” project at the California wild horse sanctuary
