July 16 to 20 Aug. 2023 The Fraternita dei Laici Museum in Arezzo is hosting “COLEOPTERA,” Meri Ciuchi’s solo exhibition curated by Laura Davitti.
The exhibition presents the latest series of prints and books, both hand-embroidered, entirely dedicated to this particular order of insects, the beetles.
The artist creates, through the photographic images she has studied and created, micro stories that aim to generate with the viewer an interaction through images, not showing a “real” aspect but an aestheticism that returns the feeling of seeing an inner world.
Meri Ciuchi creates material works through the contamination between modern techniques such as photography and sewing, an ancient and popular method of decoration.
In each of the artist’s works there are also other insects and a red thread (a symbol of connection and bonding) that acts as a link between the two modes, modern and ancient, between the photographic part and the overlapping embroidery.
The choice of the embroidery technique is also symbolic, as the thread etches the material and leaves an indelible mark that like a scar, modifies the surface and cannot be removed completely as it happens with our personal experience.
The exhibition will be on view within the museum itinerary daily from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
On Sunday, July 16 at 4 p.m. there will be an opening with a presentation of the exhibition in the presence of the artist, with free admission.
