La Palo Gallery presenta Sagarika Sundaram: Source, la prima mostra personale dell’artista a New York. La mostra, che presenta monumentali pezzi infeltriti a parete e free-standing, si basa sulle ricerche dell’artista sull’antica magia delle arti tessili e sulle potenzialità della fibra naturale grezza e tinta a mano. La mostra si terrà fino al al 4 febbraio 2024 e sarà accompagnata da un catalogo a colori.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”100342″ img_size=”full” add_caption=”yes” alignment=”right”][vc_column_text]Le opere oniriche di Sundaram uniscono il senso del colore di un pittore, la percezione dello spazio di uno scultore e il senso del movimento di un danzatore. La mostra presenta diverse composizioni tessili multistrato e una serie di complesse installazioni tridimensionali sospese che uniscono forme organiche e costruite. Attingendo ampiamente all’immaginario naturale, queste opere riflettono sull’impossibilità di separare l’umano dal naturale e l’interno dall’esterno, suggerendo la natura intrecciata della realtà.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”100339″ img_size=”full” add_caption=”yes” alignment=”right”][vc_column_text]La scala di queste opere, che sfidano le dimensioni mentre si arrampicano dal pavimento alle pareti e nell’aria, rivela l’intenso investimento di manodopera che viene effettuato per la loro realizzazione, rimandando ai primi tempi in cui questo tipo di lavoro veniva realizzato interamente a mano. Palo Gallery presents Sagarika Sundaram: Source, the artist’s debut solo exhibition in New York City. Presenting monumental wall-based and free-standing felted pieces, the exhibition builds on the artist’s investigations into the ancient magic of the textile arts and the potentialities of hand-dyed, raw natural fiber. The exhibition will run from November 3, 2023 – February 4, 2024, and will be accompanied by a full color catalog.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”100343″ img_size=”full” add_caption=”yes” alignment=”right”][vc_column_text]Sundaram’s otherworldly works unite a painter’s sense of color, a sculptor’s perception of space, and a dancer’s feeling for movement. The exhibition will feature several multi-layered textile compositions as well as a series of complex, three-dimensional hanging installations that bind together organic and constructed forms. Drawing extensively on natural imagery, these works meditate on the impossibility of separating the human from the natural and the interior from the exterior, suggesting the intertwined nature of reality.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”100340″ img_size=”full” add_caption=”yes” alignment=”right”][vc_column_text]The scale of these works, defying dimensions as they climb from floors to walls and into the air, disclose the intense investment of labor that goes into their making, harkening back to the early days when such work was wrought entirely by hand.
