SANFORD BIGGERS
Sanford Biggers (b. 1970) was raised in Los Angeles and currently lives and works in New York City. He was awarded the 2017 Rome Prize in Visual Arts.
Fascinated with textiles from a young age, Biggers incorporated fabric into his work for the forst time in 2009.
Biggers modifies antique quilts, drawing and painting on them; he uses various types of materials such as glitter, fabric fragments and spray paint and creates complex historical and cultural references through his painterly motifs.
