JUBILEE EXHIBITION: 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BIRTH OF JANINA MONKUTĖ-MARKS
The Janina Monkutė-Marks Art Museum, an official Art Museum of Kėdainiai district in Lithuania is calling for entries for the “Jubilee exhibition of the 100th anniversary of the birthday of Janina Monkutė-Marks”, the founder of the museum in her homeland. She was a renowned Lithuanian artist, creating paintings, prints and tapestries, lived in the USA. She established a Non Profit Institution and donated her works of art to Kėdainiai. The Museum opened its doors to the public in 2001. From 2023 it is a branch of Kėdainiai Regional Museum.
Janina Monkutė-Marks ART Museum
This museum is committed to the cultural and educational advancement achieved through sharing art in its dynamic diversity with the city of Kėdainiai and the larger cultural community of Lithuania. The Museum stimulates creative activity, community involvement and philanthropy by organizing exhibitions, symposia, lectures, literary evenings, concerts, and educational outreach projects for the youth.
The Museum represents a new art museum model concentrating on the action instead of being a static repository of art. The Museum initiates various contemporary artistic activities and stimulates individual creativity. It is an inclusive, vibrant art center of the community that stimulates the participation of the residents of all ages and different backgrounds.
DEFINITIONS
Janina Monkutė-Marks was open to the world. She has traveled a lot. Her works were joyful, innovative, and avant-garde during the dark times of world history. We would like to honour her with an exhibition which gives artists absolute freedom. We have refused a subtitle that could guide artists. We deliberately excluded information which could guide artists and impede their creativity.
The exhibition is open to all artists of the textile and fiber art. All techniques and all materials are admitted. Textile sculptures are desired. Installations are accepted as well as large format tapestries.
Wearable art is not desired.
Small works presented on pedestals, ground installations or suspensions from the ceiling are allowed. The artists must however consider the height of the rooms which is 2,90 m. There are no size guidelines.
The works must be of museal quality and must be created by the artist himself.
All artists are authorized to submit as many works as they wish. One or two works of each artist will be selected to be shown in the exhibition.
ENTRY, TRANSPORT, AND INSURANCE COSTS
Participation takes place without any participation fee.
The submission deadline will be July 1st, 2023.
Artists are authorized to bring their works to the museum (on a date that will be communicated to them later) and to personally pick up their works after the exhibition has closed.
Artists are required to send their work in sturdy, re-usable containers. Please label all packing materials with your name and the title of the work.
If, necessary, please include all display devices and easy-to-understand instructions for the display.
The artists will have to bear the transport costs and insurance costs for the sending and the return of the works. Works by artists outside the EU should be cleared through customs in advance by the artist.

International parcel delivery https://www.sendparcel.com is a parcel delivery online booking system offering shipping services across the world. It is a platform that delivers worldwide and has very low prices. You can do simulations.
The artists are free to choose the carrier of their choice, the platform of their choice or to bring their work personally.
Artists will be informed in good time about the period during which they can request their platform to return works.
Artists can leave their work in the Janina Monkutė-Marks Museum by making a donation.
The authors can send works by one way and donate the works to the museum. In this way, the collection of works donated to the museum will expand and it will be possible to show these works to an even wider audience. These works can be shown in other exhibitions of the museum or in exhibitions of other museums in Baltic countries.
JURY
Works will be selected by Rimantas Žirgulis, director of the Kėdainiai Regional Museum, Dalia Minkevičienė-Jazdauskienė, niece of Janina Monkutė-Marks, Asta Fedaravičiūtė-Jasiūnė, manager of the Janina Monkutė-Marks Museum, and two great renown artists of textile and fiber art from Lithuania.

Artists are allowed to order their platform to return their works from 15 days after the closing of the exhibition.
