32 MINIARTEXTIL “DENUDARE FEMINAS VESTIS”
ARTE&ARTE Cultural Association promotes a call for artists about the selection of small-sized mini- textile works for the contemporary textile Art exhibition “MINIARTEXTIL ’32” which will be set up in the Church of San Pietro in Atrio, in the historical centre of Como, from Saturday 5 August 2023 until Sunday 3 September 2023 and the title is DENUDARE FEMINAS VESTIS.
The call is open to artists, designers, teachers and students of artistic disciplines who propose a work created with textile techniques and/or materials since Miniartextil’s purpose is to promote and disseminate textile art as an expressive means of contemporary art, highlighting its techniques and methods of realization.
“The art of unraveling the cocoons to weave them was devised by a woman of the island of Cos, Panfile, daughter of Plataea, who should not be defrauded of the glory of having devised the way to strip women naked by dressing them” (Pliny the Elder, N.H. , XI, 26).
Inspired by these words of Pliny the Elder, extrapolated from his best-known work “Naturalis Historia”, we have chosen a theme that will become the guideline of the Miniartextil 32 Exhibition: “DENUDARE FEMINAS VESTIS” (Naked women by dressing them). It means that clothes which they let the light through and thus let what is hidden be seen.
The work must possess the following characteristics: original work, made by hand or where the technique is controlled by the artist, made with textile materials or techniques; it can be two- or three-dimensional. The dimensions of the work should categorically not exceed 20x20x20 centimeters. The use of passe partouts is prohibited. The work is not to be conceived hanging or suspended from a support and connection to the electric line must not be required.
The admission of the work to the exhibition is subject to the unquestionable selection made by a Jury directly appointed by the ARTE&ARTE cultural association which, in addition to selecting the 54 pieces that will be exhibited in the exhibition
