This publication is dedicated to the memory of Youlie Spantidaki, a renowned scientist, biochemical engineer, archaeologist and international textile and lace specialist. She is known for her work on the collections of the Musée de la Mode et du Textile in Paris, the Musée des Tissus in Lyon, the Musée des Manufactures de Dentelles in Retournac, the Benaki Museum in Athens and the Peloponnese Folklore Foundation in Nafplion. It follows a symposium held in the autumn of 2013 in Lyon, organised under the scientific direction of Bernard Berthod, curator of the Fourvière Museum of Religious Art, as part of the Labelsoie festival coordinated by Maria Anne Privat Savigny, then chief curator and director of the Gadagne Museums at the initiative of the City of Lyon. The collected texts were written by friends and colleagues of Youlie Spantidaki, from Greece, France, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium and Italy, with the aim of paying an intellectual tribute and expressing their gratitude to this great figure in the history of textiles.
