As a continuation of the cultural offerings dedicated to the project of popularizing the work of Gina Morandini, on Friday, April 19, at 5:30 p.m. in the newly opened Gina Morandini Gallery of Contemporary Textile Art will open the exhibition “Sguardi sul Tessile” dedicated to artists Favia Caffi, Rosanna Colloricchio, Liviana Di Giusto, Loredana Giacomini, Tiziana Infanti and Antonella Pizzolongo

In common with the six invitees is the particular origin: they were all former students of Morandini when he taught at the I.S.A. Istituto Statale d’Arte Giovanni Sello in Udine-now Liceo Artistico Giovanni Sello-at the Textile Art, Carpet and Tapestry section. “Handweaving allows one to develop an idea and, moving from one trial to the next, allows one to identify on the textile plane the many creative possibilities….”, Gina wrote. She, as a teacher, never tired of letting people learn the basics of technique on cardboard and on the loom and – they all remember – left ample room for creativity and development of their own projects giving free rein to their imagination.

Says Le Arti Tessili President Annamaria Poggioli, who will present the exhibition on opening day, April 19 at 5:30 p.m:
In this exhibition, we will get to see six distinct styles and personalities, six women with remarkable work experience and technical experimentation, well represented by works that are unique in their use of materials and techniques properly akin to textile making. We are proud to carry on the project of research and dissemination of Gina Morandini’s work by hosting at our Gallery this important public event dedicated to the alumnae with whom the bond has never ceased even outside the school benches.

The opening will be accompanied by musical entertainment by the duo Canti Erranti, composed of musicians Patrizia Bertoncello (voice, guitar, accordion) and Nilla Patrizio (voice, percussion); a time to listen to folk songs dedicated to yarns, spinning mills and weaves.

In May, on the other hand, Art Workshops (four meetings) inspired by the exhibits and Morandini’s works conducted by Art Therapist Ilaria Bomben will start.

Last but not least, let us recall the calendar of training courses that, until June, will enliven the spaces of Le Arti Tessili headquarters during weekends: “Felt 3 meetings=3 techniques” conducted by Barbara Girardi, “Art of Tapestry and Carpet” curated by Liviana Di Giusto, “Macramé advanced techniques” conducted by Dolores Tomini, “Botanical/Eco Printing” held by Olga Giust. The detailed program can be seen at www.leartitessili.it with link on the home page.

The exhibition will be open to the public from April 20 to June 1, 2024 every Saturday afternoon from 3 to 6 pm. Guided tours for small groups can be arranged by reservation by writing to segreteria@leartitessili.it.
