SCD Textile & Art Studio, a non-profit cultural association situated in Perugia, operates within the sphere of contemporary fiber art. It is committed to organize and support international art endeavors on a national scale, aiming to acquaint a diverse audience with the textile-oriented languages of contemporary visual arts.
This June 2024, SCD Studio is organizing an international group exhibition at the Biblioteca Ernesto Balducci in Barberino di Mugello (Florence). This event is part of a broader initiative celebrating the capacity of the written word to conjure alternate realities and immersive universes, which we navigate through literature and its subsequent manifestation in contemporary art.
The weaving and interweaving of the words in the books will be echoed – through the different techniques and/or textile materials – by the fiber, textile and embroidery artworks selected through an open call for European artists. This artistic voyage will form a symbiotic path, giving rise to new worlds that reflect the diverse interpretations inherent in every piece of literature—whether prose or poetry, sacred or secular, narrative or novel, fairy tale or myth, chronicle or epic—each rich with its own narrative.
VERBA CREANT: THE INFINITE WORLDS IN THE INTERTWINNING OF WORDS AND ART
Words weave together, forming text in various forms — prose and poetry alike — that enhances reality with reflections of other, both imaginary and conceived, universes. Firmly planted in our reality, these words spread into limitless narratives, inviting as many voyages as there are readers. VERBA CREANT honors the inventive force of words, showcasing artworks that — through textile techniques and/or materials — respond to literature in all its forms, irrespective of language, style, or genre.
The project seeks to illuminate the synergy between literary narratives and fiber/textile art, with both Writing and Art serving as instruments to comprehend, explore, and visualize new concepts, places, and thoughts that expand beyond the known. They embody the personal and collective progression of humanity and bear witness to the unfolding of societies and eras.
VERBA CREANT will be dispayed in the Biblioteca Ernesto Balducci, fostering a dialogue between art and literature. Visitors are invited to embark on a multi-faceted journey, navigating through words, symbols, and meanings, akin to traversing the pages of a book and delving into the depths of a labyrinth.
THE EXHIBITION
The exhibition will materialize through a CALL FOR PARTICIPATION, welcoming submissions from adult artists based or professionally active within the European Union. Curated by SCD Textile & Art Studio, VERBA CREANT will be displayed at the BIBLIOTECA ERNESTO BALDUCCI IN BARBERINO DI MUGELLO (FI), from June 15 to July 13, 2024.
