SMOKING MATERIALS

Italiano (Italian)

SMOKING MATERIALS is the title chosen by the curators of PILOTENKUECHE / international art program round 57 – Thom Hamer and Maria Chiara Wang – for the open studio day of the 12 artists selected for the residency that began on October 3, 2023. Event’s goal: to show the different stages of the creative process from conception, to design, to production.
Alongside the rooms dedicated to the work of individual artists, a collective exhibition space will be set up where works still in the making will be juxtaposed according to different technical and conceptual juxtapositions. Thus it is that the abstract will be placed side by side with the figurative, the colorful with the monochrome, the empty with the full, organic elements with artificial ones.

A double thread will run through the spaces and works giving voice to a coherent narrative: the ephemerality of smoke as a metaphor for the process leading to creation, combined with the tactility of materials. Brushes, oils, acrylics, ceramics, textiles, and waxes will take center stage as witnesses of artistic making and will speak to the public about a manuality linked to creation.
