Dal mio background come costumista per il teatro e l’opera, creo oggetti in costume.
Senza un attore o un cantante in movimento, un costume acquista le caratteristiche di una scultura monumentale, diventa un oggetto.
Dalla fantasia, dall’interesse per la materia e dall’amore per l’artigianato, prendono forma, modellando e sperimentando, una forma, un’atmosfera e una silhouette che spero suscitino stupore e intrigo.
Diverse tradizioni artistiche del mio paese e di altre culture sono una fonte di ispirazione.
Non esiste alcun legame sostanziale tra la fonte di ispirazione e l’oggetto finale in cui appare. Riguarda esclusivamente la forma e l’atmosfera che crea.
Da una relativa semplicità nelle linee e nelle sfumature di colore a molto esuberante.
C’è sempre qualcosa di scolpito in esso, e un po’ di assurdità stimola sempre la mia immaginazione.

Alla ricerca dell’atemporalità.

Rien Bekkers. The Art of Costume

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]From my background as a costume designer for theater and opera, I create costume objects.

Without a moving actor or singer, a costume gains the characteristics of a monumental sculpture, it becomes an object.

From a fantasy, an interest in the material and love for the craftsmanship, a shape, an atmosphere and a silhouette – which I hope raise wonder and intrigue – gradually come into being through modeling and experimenting.

Different artistic traditions from my own country and other cultures are a source of inspiration.

There is no substantive link between the source of inspiration and the final object in which it appears. It is purely about the shape and the atmosphere that it creates.

From a relative simplicity in lines and colour shades to very exuberant.

There is always something sculpted about it, and a little absurdism always stimulates my imagination.

Looking for timelessness.
