“Making Soft Water”indaga sul materiale come vettore di significato, una materia dinamica e mutevole che interconnette sostanze diverse. L’acqua permea i corpi, attraversandone le membrane, e ci insegna che, a differenza delle entità isolate, siamo tutti parte di un vasto sistema di interconnessioni. L’acqua ci rende entità uguali e fluide. Il mio lavoro è un’indagine visiva sull’impermanenza dell’acqua. Come avviene sulla superficie dei pianeti, l’acqua, pur scomparendo, lascia la sua memoria sulla lana, creando crepe, buchi, grotte e valli: un susseguirsi di spazi vuoti e pieghe, di vuoti e di pieni, con un proprio
e gli esseri umani vengono archiviati in modo invisibile. La scritta sulla superficie di questi pannelli è il risultato di una contaminazione profonda o di un modo segreto di comunicare tra gli elementi. Noi, esseri umani, siamo parte di questo sistema di interdipendenza, piccole gocce di qualcosa di più grande. Il suono della lavorazione del feltro ci ricorda la circolarità dei gorghi oceanici, l’acqua e la lana che diventano una superficie morbida, i gesti umani che impastano e comprimono la materia, legando fibra dopo fibra in una massa con nuove proprietà. La lana imita la roccia; l’acqua crea entrambi.

THE ARIST

Elena Redaelli crea progetti che scambiano senza soluzione di continuità tra ambiente e pubblico. Utilizza una combinazione di tecniche di ricerca e di produzione per creare opere di arte pubblica, site-responsive e attente all’ambiente, caratterizzate da un intenso lavoro manuale, tecniche artigianali e processi organici. Esplora la trasformazione, la generazione e il decadimento della materia e sfida i confini dell’autorialità e dell’intervento attivo, applicando metodi fluidi in cui l’improvvisazione e lo scambio incoraggiano l’interazione di specie diverse, esseri animati e inanimati. La Redaelli è appassionata di making e apprezza pratiche antiche come la tessitura a mano, il lavoro a maglia, l’uncinetto, l’infeltrimento, il ricamo e la fabbricazione della carta. Si impegna inoltre per la sostenibilità ambientale, ricercando e promuovendo l’uso di materiali naturali, riciclati e locali. Con un Master of Fine Arts dell’UCA di Londra e un Master in Scultura dell’Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma, Redaelli ha sviluppato la sua pratica attraverso residenze artistiche, progetti site-specific e simposi in tutto il mondo.

“Making Soft Water” inquires into the material as a carrier of meaning, a dynamic, changeable matter inter-connecting different substances. Water permeates bodies, crossing their membranes, and teaches us that, unlike isolated entities, we are all part of a vast system of interconnections. Watermakes us equal and fluid entities. My work is a visual investigation of the impermanence of water. As it does on the surface of the planets, water, while disappearing, leaves its memory on the wool, creating cracks, holes, caves and valleys: a succession of blanks and creases, voids and solids, with a proper
and humans are invisibly archived. Written on the surface of these panels is the result of deep contamination or a secret way of communicating among elements. We, humans, are a part of this system of interdependency, small drops of something bigger. The sound of felt making reminds us of the circularity of oceanic eddies, water and wool becoming a soft surface, human gestures kneading and compressing matter, binding fibre after fibre into a mass with new properties. Wool mimics rock; water creates both.

Elena Redaelli creates projects that seamlessly exchange with theenvironment and the public. Sheemploys a combination ofresearch and production techniques to create public art, site-responsive,and environmentally conscious works characterised byextensive manual labour, craft techniques, andorganic processes.She explores the transformation, generation, and decay of matterand challengesthe boundaries of authorship and activeintervention, applying fluid methods where improvisationandexchange encourage the interplay of different species,animate and inanimate beings.
