Inaugurerà venerdì 15 settembre alle ore 17:30 presso la Rocca di Dozza (BO) La nascita di mille inferni, la mostra personale dell’artista tessile Elisabetta Cameli a cura di Lucrezia Caliani. La mostra rientra nel calendario ufficiale degli eventi della Biennale del Muro Dipinto 2023 e sarà visitabile fino al 15 ottobre 2023.
La nascita di mille inferni è la mostra antologica di Elisabetta Cameli che raccoglie alcune delle più importanti opere della produzione dell’artista ed altre create ad hoc, su ispirazione del luogo che ospiterà l’esibizione: le prigioni della Rocca di Dozza. L’esposizione è infatti l’esito di una riflessione profonda sulla nascita, come primigenio atto di separazione e scaturigine di eterni conflitti, tematica da cui si dipana e si concentra la ricerca dell’artista.

Qual è la linea di confine tra il nascere e il mancare? Quanti atti di morte e rinascita dobbiamo compiere nell’arco della nostra esistenza per vivere davvero? E cosa significa venire alla luce, se non far sì che qualcosa resti nell’ombra? Da queste domande si avvia la riflessione dell’artista che è stata ulteriormente stimolata in quest’occasione proprio dal luogo che ospiterà l’esibizione: le prigioni della Rocca di Dozza, un luogo estremamente suggestivo ed evocativo, che mantiene ancora perfettamente conservate le incisioni sui muri dei detenuti che nel corso degli anni vi furono rinchiusi. Scendendo in questo ambiente si ha la sensazione di entrare in un territorio ctonio, infernale e al contempo intimo e racchiuso, al confine tra la dimensione cavernicola e quella uterina. Questo spazio ha ricondotto Elisabetta Cameli alla sensazione di “Regressus ad Uterum”, ovvero un mistico ritorno allo stato primordiale dell’essere e le è stato d’ispirazione per la creazione della sua ultima scultura, un’opera che riflette sul principio di dicotomia incluso in quello di nascita. L’artista, andando a lavorare sull’idea dello spazio cavo come spazio contemporaneamente vuoto e pieno, ha realizzato infatti un’opera che ci indica la doppiezza del dentro e fuori, diventando un’allegoria dell’utero materno. La scultura si compone di due parti, cave appunto, il cui interno si può scorgere grazie alla trasparenza del merletto. In essa l’artista, attraverso l’uso delle corde avvolte, richiama parti del corpo vive e in divenire, che diventano anche il legame indissolubile tra le due parti. Quest’opera è rappresentazione dell’atto in cui è contenuto il passaggio dall’individualità alla dualità, come rapporto di separazione.

Sarà visibile nell’ambito dell’esposizione anche la serie dei quattro “Burial Clothes”, opere che si legano, come una sorta di capitolo successivo, alla scultura. La tecnica del merletto a macchina e dell’intreccio a mano permettono a Elisabetta Cameli di ottenere in queste opere delle trame che alternano trasparenze e consistenze e che simboleggiano le pagine di vita del diario personale di ogni individuo, raccontando l’esistenza con il suo continuo mutare nel tempo. Questi lavori realizzati a merletto, diventano come delle pelli, in cui l’inserimento delle corde diventa rappresentazione di ciò che c’è dentro di noi e vuole emergere.
“Le opere, come vere e proprie ecdisi, costituiscono ciò che resta di noi dopo un processo di morte e rinascita, dunque di separazione. Queste spoglie tessili costituiscono un modo per preservare l’esperienza del proprio vissuto mostrando le lacerazioni, le perdite e i conflitti che ci portano alla consapevolezza di chi siamo, verso la necessaria ricerca della nostra identità e saranno di stimolo ai visitatori verso una riflessione personale ed intima” – spiega Lucrezia Caliani, curatrice della mostra.

Biografia dell’artista: ELISABETTA CAMELI
Nata a Bologna, si laurea in Sociologia e Lettere Moderne e successivamente consegue un Master in Fotografia a Roma nel 2011 presso la Scuola Romana di Fotografia e un diploma in Ricamo e Merletto presso l’Emilia Ars a Bologna nel 2016. Seguirà inoltre diversi workshop che andranno a formare la sua costellazione artistica, creando un percorso artistico eterogeneo in cui il medium tessile diventa un punto di approdo che lega tutta la sua formazione come il retro di un arazzo. Attraverso un alfabeto gestuale in cui la forza simbolica del merletto e delle corde si incontrano, mette in luce la difficoltà del separarsi e dell’esistere, il conflitto in tutte le sue forme. La sua ricerca nasce dall’analisi dell’identità personale con una particolare attenzione ai conflitti interiori e alle soglie dell’esistenza che come delle tracce percorrono l’essere umano fin dalla nascita. I suoi lavori sono una profonda riflessione sui principi della memoria del proprio vissuto concentrandosi sul ciclo di separazione e appartenenza che ci restituisce l’incerta e tormentosa dimensione dell’esistenza. I materiali organici che utilizza evocano pelli, corpi vivi, muscoli, viscere e organi, tessuti lacerati e allo stesso tempo tenaci che ci restituiscono elementi in bilico, come soglie o linee di confine, metafore del rapporto tra l’interno e l’esterno, tra il visibile e l’invisibile, tra la nascita e la perdita. L’antinomia di questi elementi li rende imprescindibili l’uno per l’altro e insieme indispensabili per l’esistenza, in un’eterna e irraggiungibile ricerca di equilibrio nella trasformazione. Le opere dell’artista sono state presenti in mostre nazionali e internazionali: Scythia”, Ivano-Frankivs’k, Ukraine, XS Project”, Bergamo art Fair, Bergamo, Italia, No name gallery, Bologna, Italia, Whit roots and without”, Roots Art Gallery, Pisa, Italia, in concorsi: The 11° International mini textile and Fiber Art exhibition, Scythia, Ivano- Frankivs’K, Ukraine, Miniartextile 32° edizione, Como, Italia. L’artista è stata selezionata a residenze quali “Ramo” a Caramanico Terme nel 2022 a cura di Giuliana Besana e alla Palermo Summer School of International Art a Cura di Daria Filardo e Stefania Galegati.

Opening Friday, September 15 at 5:30 p.m. at the Rocca di Dozza (BO) La nascita di mille inferni, the solo exhibition of textile artist Elisabetta Cameli curated by Lucrezia Caliani. The exhibition is part of the official calendar of events of the Biennale del Muro Dipinto 2023 and will be open until October 15, 2023.
” La Nascita di Mille Inferni” is Elisabetta Cameli’s anthological exhibition that brings together some of the most important works from the artist’s production and others created ad hoc, inspired by the place that will host the exhibition: the prisons of the Rocca di Dozza fortress. The exhibition is in fact the outcome of a profound reflection on birth, as a primal act of separation and the source of eternal conflicts, a theme from which the artist’s research unravels and focuses.

What is the line between being born and missing? How many acts of death and rebirth do we have to perform in the span of our existence to truly live? And what does it mean to come into the light, if not to cause something to remain in the shadows? These questions are the starting point for the artist’s reflection, which has been further stimulated on this occasion by the very place that will host the exhibition: the prisons of the Rocca di Dozza, an extremely evocative and evocative place that still perfectly preserves the engravings on the walls of the inmates who were locked up there over the years. Descending into this environment, one has the sensation of entering a chthonic, infernal and at the same time intimate and enclosed territory, on the border between the cavernicolous and uterine dimensions. This space has led Elisabetta Cameli back to the feeling of “Regressus ad Uterum,” or a mystical return to the primordial state of being, and it has inspired her to create her latest sculpture, a work that reflects on the principle of dichotomy included in that of birth. The artist, going to work on the idea of hollow space as a space simultaneously empty and full, has in fact created a work that points us to the duplicity of inside and outside, becoming an allegory of the mother’s womb. The sculpture consists of two parts, hollow indeed, the inside of which can be glimpsed thanks to the transparency of the lace. In it, the artist, through the use of coiled ropes, recalls living and becoming parts of the body, which also become the unbreakable bond between the two parts. This work is a representation of the act in which the transition from individuality to duality is contained, as a relationship of separation.

Also on view as part of the exhibition will be the series of the four “Burial Clothes,” works that are linked, as a kind of next chapter, to the sculpture. The technique of machine lace and hand weaving allow Elisabetta Cameli to obtain in these works textures that alternate transparencies and textures and symbolize the life pages of the personal diary of each individual, telling the existence with its continuous change over time. These works made in lace, become like skins, in which the insertion of strings becomes a representation of what is inside us and wants to emerge.
“The works, like real ecdysis, constitute what remains of us after a process of death and rebirth, thus of separation. These textile remains constitute a way of preserving the experience of one’s lived experience by showing the lacerations, losses and conflicts that lead us to the awareness of who we are, toward the necessary search for our identity and will be a stimulus to visitors toward a personal and intimate reflection”-explains Lucrezia Caliani, curator of the exhibition.

Artist biography: ELISABETTA CAMELI
Born in Bologna, she graduated in Sociology and Modern Literature and later obtained a Master’s degree in Photography in Rome in 2011 at the Roman School of Photography and a diploma in Embroidery and Lace at Emilia Ars in Bologna in 2016. She will also follow several workshops that will go on to form her artistic constellation, creating a heterogeneous artistic path in which the textile medium becomes a landing point that binds all her training like the back of a tapestry. Through a gestural alphabet in which the symbolic power of lace and strings meet, she highlights the difficulty of separating and existing, conflict in all its forms. Her research stems from the analysis of personal identity with a focus on inner conflicts and the thresholds of existence that like traces run through human beings from birth. Her works are a deep reflection on the principles of memory of one’s own experience focusing on the cycle of separation and belonging that returns us to the uncertain and tormented dimension of existence. The organic materials she uses evoke skins, living bodies, muscles, viscera and organs, torn and at the same time tenacious tissues that return us elements in the balance, like thresholds or boundary lines, metaphors of the relationship between the inside and the outside, between the visible and the invisible, between birth and loss. The antinomy of these elements makes them inseparable from each other and at the same time indispensable for existence, in an eternal and unattainable search for balance in transformation.
