Since the beginning of the modern era, the interaction between art and music has provided significant impulses to the development of new art forms. Many studies on the subject trace the beginning of this interaction already in prehistoric times. A path that from antiquity and the Middle Ages has swept through all the eras, leading to the passage from classical artistic techniques to the beginnings of contemporary media art. The Verzahnung project is based on this interaction conceived as spatial art.
The aim of the project is to artistically explore the complex relationship between pictorial-spatial and space-musical content and the “realities of places” in which this relationship is made tangible to the public. Verzahnung declines these “realities” in the aesthetic dialogue between art and music by integrating the limits and disadvantages of one with the strengths and advantages of the other and freeing them from their usual patterns through comparison, measurement and the contradiction inherent in the dialogue. The artists invited to the Verzahnung project – Alessandro Bazan, Erika Giacalone, Leunora Salihu and Andreas Techler – confront each other in this field probing the boundaries between pictorial space and spatial image, between sound space and sound image.
