CHUNG-IM KIM
Chung-Im Kim è un’artista, designer ed educatrice che vive vicino a Cookstown, Ontario. Nata in Corea, Kim ha insegnato discipline tessili sia alla Seoul Women’s University che all’Induk Institute. Ha anche lavorato come designer freelance in Corea producendo disegni per tessuti e dopo il suo trasferimento in Canada nel 1990, Kim è entrata a far parte dello Studio Tessile dell’Harbourfront Centre dal 1998 al 2001, e da allora ha mantenuto un’attiva pratica di studio e ha eseguito numerose commissioni private.
Chung-Im Kim realizza serigrafie su feltro industriale, cucendo a mano il feltro per creare sculture murali dimensionali che sembrano ondeggiare –creando un’illusione resa ancor più convincente dalla combinazione di disegni e sapienti cuciture.
“Perché il feltro? (…) sono rimasta colpita dalla qualità unica e dal ricco potenziale di questo materiale relativamente sconosciuto. Più mi cimentavo con essoe più mi affezionavo e continuavo ad esplorarne la flessibilità, la capacità di essere modellato. Queste qualità mi permettono di realizzare le mie idee. Come molti in questo campo, ritengo che comprendere appieno il materiale e acquisire la capacità tecnica per gestirlo sia importante tanto quanto sviluppare l’idea”.
